Brazil will have new Electronic Tourist Visa for US citizens and other countries
BRASILIA, November 24th.- Yesterday, the Brazilian Foreing Office (Itamaraty) launched the Electronic Tourist Visa Programme – E-VISA – for citizens of Australia, Canada, Japan and the USA.
The initiative makes the visa application for Brazil quicker and more convenient, increasing the efficiency of consular services. The foreign applicant may apply for the E-VISA and obtain it remotely, either via the website (www.vfsglobal.com/brazil-evisa) or mobile/tablet app.
The electronic visa system is planned to begin operating for the following countries on the following dates:
Australia: started the operation on November 21, 2017
Japan: January 11, 2018
Canada: January 18, 2018
USA: January 25, 2018
The Brazilian E-VISA will be paid for online and will cost USD 40, significantly cheaper than the traditional visa. Payment can be made via Mastercard, Visa or Union Pay. The visa will be valid for two years from the date of issue and the process should take an average of five working days. Even with the new online system, it will still be possible to request a visa through the Brazilian consular network in the traditional way.
The electronic visa holder will be required to present a printed copy to the airline in order to board their flight to Brazil. The Federal Police are fully integrated with the E-VISA, and it is anticipated that in the near future it will also be combined with the e-Gates at Brazilian airports, currently exclusive to Brazilian citizens.
